Fun Lunch (Twice each month):
The PTO coordinates this event throughout the school year. Once or twice a month, students can receive a special preordered lunch. Orders are placed at the beginning of each semester only. Lunch is the same for all participating students.

Yearbook Orders : (March 20, 2010)
Yearbook orders through March 20, 2010, each book priced at $15.00 (additional $1.50 for *Zoom insert). The 2009-2010 Yearbook is anticipated to be delivered in May 2010.

 
 

Daddy/Daughter Dance (April 17, 2010):
Spring event honoring dads and their daughters. Dance is held at Kaneland John Shields Elementary Gym. Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm

 
 

Breakfast with Santa: (December 5)
The PTO & Sugar Grove Firefighter's Association co-sponsor a Breakfast with Santa during Sugar Grove's annual Holiday in the Grove.  All profits are donated to the needy families of the area through the Holiday Spirit Program.

 
 

Holiday in the Grove (December 5):
Mark your calendar for the first Saturday of December and join the community for Breakfast with Santa, a Children’s Gift Shop, a “Sweet Shoppe”, sleigh ride or horse drawn carriage, Fun Fair and pictures with Santa.

 
 

Father/Son Night Out (Saturday, February 6, 2010):
Vaughan Aquatic Center, 6-8pm
The KSS Father/Son outing will be held at the Vaughan Aquatic Center where we will have two hours for just the kids and dads of Kaneland John Shields.  Bring your swimsuit, a towel and some warm clothes for the drive home.  It should be a little bit of summer fun in the middle of the winter.

 
 

Mother/Daughter Outing (January 30):
On Saturday, January 30th, the girls will get to go to a production of "Hansel and Gretel" at the Steel Beam Theatre in St. Charles.  Show times will be at 10:30, 1:00, and 3:00.  Families will be asked to rank their preferences.  After the show we’ll head over to IL- Giardino Del Dolce Bakery for a cookie and drink.  The cost for the package will be $13.00 per person (includes show and bakery).  This will be a paper purchase only.  Online ordering will not be available for this event.  Please check the backpacks for ordering information as the event gets closer.

 
 

Mother/Son Fling (October 16):
This event will take place on a Friday evening at Sugar Grove Community House.  The theme this year is “Boo Mash”!  Be prepared for a ghastly and ghoulish fun-filled evening. Dinner option is available.

 
 

Parent University (October 25) :
This is a district run program that we sponsor.  Their mission is to provide opportunities for parents to gain knowledge and experience in parenting, supporting their child, and connecting to the community and school district.  You will find breakout sessions on topics such as: Bullying, Let's talk about sex, Teaching Teens about money, Homework Helpers and many more.

 
 

Family Fun Nights:
The PTO will be hosting several nights created just for the whole family to enjoy.  This year you can look forward to a Family Science Night as well as a Family  ______ Night.  In the spring we will also be hosting a live show featuring animals from the rainforest.

Environmental Fundraisers:

These programs are designed to promote fundraising through environmentally conscious products.  The PTO receives a percentage of the purchase amount.  We thank you in advance for helping to keep our communities green and supporting the PTO's many programs and events.

 
 

Fall Fundraiser (September):
Innisbrook provides high quality wrapping paper and gifts in addition to “green products”.  50% of the sales from this program will go to your PTO to sponsor and run numerous programs and events.

 
 

Contributions (Year Round):
Any family that would like to make a monetary contribution to the PTO to support our many events and programs may do so at any time of the year.  Thank you in advance for your support!

 
 

SCRIPS Gift Certificate Program (Year Round): 
Via internet at http://www.simplifiedscrip.com  or direct mail families and friends of KJS can order gift certificates to be used at many businesses and restaurants.  It is fast, easy, and delivered right to your door.  The PTO earns a percentage of the total dollar amount of each certificate purchased.

 
 

“Cans for Computers” (Year Round): You can donate your aluminum cans at any time.  Rinsed and crushed cans would be greatly appreciated. The money made from recycling the cans will be used to purchase new computers for classrooms.  Visit   www.cans4kids.info to find a drop spot near you.

 
 

Box Tops/Campbell’s Soup/Ink Cartridge Recycling (Year Round): 
You can collect and turn in Box Tops, Campbell's Soup labels and empty ink cartridges. The points and dollars redeemed for these items are used to purchase unallocated supplies and equipment for art, music, library, or P.E. needs.

 
 

Market Day (Monthly during the school year):  
Market Day is a unique fundraiser offering a wide selection of over 180 high quality foods at competitive prices, many of which are not available in your grocery store. Their products range from butcher shop meats and poultry to easy family meals, delicious appetizers and gourmet desserts. Many of their items are not only great tasting but also low in fat and calories for healthy eating.

With your help the PTO coordinates volunteers to help distribute and sort Market Day. Check the calendar or the Market Day website www.marketday.com  for the pick-up dates and times. Our school code is #14157.

 
 
Academic / Community Programs

 

School Directory:
All parents of students are invited to have their name, address, telephone number and email address printed in this yearly directory. To be included in the directory, your family's information needs to be submitted online through www.kjs.ptomanager.com. An order form to purchase will be sent home through the backpacks and via e-mail from kjs.ptomanager.

 
 

Yearbook:  
This committee captures pictures of the students throughout the school year and works with Lifetouch to fill and arrange lots of fun-filled pages. The 2008-2009 Yearbook is anticipated to be delivered in May 2009.

 
 

Newsletter (Quarterly):
The PTO publishes and distributes quarterly newsletters regarding PTO activities. Advertisements for upcoming events and notes from other chair people, messages from PTO president and school principal can be included. Newsletters are sent home at the beginning of each month to inform parents of upcoming PTO activities. Sign up at Welcome Back or Curriculum Night to save paper and receive your Newsletter via e-mail!

School Spirit Wear (Fall and Spring):
The PTO sponsors school gear including T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweat pants and shorts. Parents can order these items throughout the year at various PTO functions.

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-9):
The PTO honors our hardworking teachers at KJS. The week highlights include a buffet luncheon donated by volunteer parents and a small gift of appreciation from all of our KJS families.

 
 

Back to School Supplies (Spring):
A PTO fundraiser. School supplies can be preordered at the end of the school year to be delivered at the beginning of next school year.

 
 

Hospitality:
The PTO recognizes the numerous individuals, staff, teachers and sponsors who assist us throughout the year.

 
 

Programs/ Assemblies:
The PTO arranges and sponsors an all school assembly three times a year. The assemblies are both educational and fun for all grade levels.
