The Kaneland John Shields Parent Teacher Organization (KSS-PTO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the educational experience of all Kaneland John Shields Elementary Students by providing fun and educational programs and activities during the school year. All teachers and administrators at the school, as well as all parents and guardians of John Shields students comprise our voting membership.

We rely on our members to help with the many programs and activities the KSS-PTO sponsors. We are striving to make our programs family oriented, educational and environmentally conscious. "Cans for Computers" fundraiser and “Character Counts!” are just two of the newer programs we’ve started in the last few years. A few of our ongoing services offered include, Market Day, Fun Lunch, and all school assemblies. These events along with many others would not be possible without help from our volunteer members.
The 2009-2010 school year continues our new, year round fundraiser: "Cans for Computers". This aluminum can recycling program has raised enough money to put two new computers in the LRC. An annual fall fundraiser and possibly a spring fundraiser will be held to raise the large amount of money needed to support our many activities and events. The KSS-PTO also provides funding for items requested by teachers and administrators which fall outside the school's regular budget. Past purchases include new writing curriculum materials, a laminating machine, computers and various pieces of office equipment. The KSS-PTO has also provided funds to support Laredo-Taft, a Fifth Grade Outdoor Education program, Health Education, the Kaneland Fine Arts Festival and Parent University, a new program aimed at helping busy parents with everyday parenting issues.
The KSS-PTO welcomes and encourages all members to attend our monthly meetings. Meetings will be held on one Tuesday of each month from 7pm-8pm in the Teacher's Lounge at John Shields.
